I haven't been crazy about Deschutes beer recently, but this might have just re-lit a spark. The 2010 Abyss is delicious and balanced, with high ABV that never overwhelms the palate. Bourbon notes with a creamy molasses and cocoa, and hints of licorice on the finish. Definitely age-worthy; perhaps put it down until 2012-2013. January 22, 2011

I recently had the chance to have this beer on tap and I have to say, it was even better than I remembered. The Abyss is so deliciously complex, with lots of chocolate, vanilla and raisiny notes. But I really love the warm bourbon finish that comes from its time in barrels. Outstanding beer. I can't wait to see how it ages. April 14, 2011
